OXFORDSHIRE SENIOR CUP (ROUND 1)

MARSTON SAINTS F.C. 2 - HOOK NORTON F.C. 3 (AET) 90 mins. 1-1

Hook Norton travelled to Oxford where they faced Marston Saints in the First Round of the Oxon Senior Cup and made heavy weather of knocking out there lower league opposition, eventually going through after Extra Time.

The visitors got off to the best possible start Reve Basanti scoring from six yards out turning in a fine James Kite left wing cross.

After 19 minutes Kite was pressed in to Goalkeeper duties as Joe Murrell was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury on his Hook Norton debut.

Saints then enjoyed a good 10 minute spell in the game but rarely threatened the stand in keeper.

26 minutes in Reve Basanti released Jason Tillcock in on goal but with the keeper advancing pulled his shot wide of the post, Tillcock once more had a good chance just before the break but his tame shot was easily saved by the Saints keeper.

Half-Time 0-1

An even second period saw neither goalkeeper troubled, until 67 minutes, a long ball found the dangerous Mark Gaul who easily slotted the ball into the goal past the on rushing Kite from the edge of the 18 yard area.

Hooky had one final chance to secure a win in normal time, Neal Hobday playing in Jamie Wyatt who’s shot went narrowly over the bar.

Full-Time 1-1

Two minutes into Extra Time, Neal Hobday conceded a needless free kick on the edge of the 18 yard box.

Josh Carr fired the free kick through a congested goal mouth and the ball settled in the bottom right hand corner of the unsighted Kite’s net to put the hosts in front.

However, seasons past Hooky may well have sunk at this point, however “The Brewery Boys” finlly got the ball down and played some really good football and deservedly drew level on 104 minutes, Jamie Wyatt firing in the equaliser from 20 yards.

Extra-Time Half-Time 2-2

Hooky continued to play their football and dominated the second period of extra time. Jason Tillcock scoring a deserved winner on 110 minutes, smashing the ball into the bottom corner from 12 yards out after Saints failed to clear the ball from a corner, therefore securing Hooky’s passage through to the second round.

Extra-Time Final Score 2-3
