UHLSPORT HELLENIC LEAGUE “SUPPLEMENTARY” CUP (R2)

LETCOMBE F.C. 2 - HOOK NORTON F.C. 1

Hook Norton left “The Rec.” at Letcombe scratching there heads and wondering how they narrowly lost this Supplementary Cup Round Two fixture to there Division One East counterparts after a thoroughly solid and impressive performance on a very difficult playing surface.

With changes to the side due to suspensions and player unavailability “The Brewery Boys” got off to the worst possible start, a corner after only two minutes was swung in by Lyle Gifford, Pete Horswell was first to the ball and his goal ward shot was saved by Joe Murrell in the Hooky goal, but Murrell was unable to keep hold of the ball allowing Horsewell to prod the ball home from the rebound to put Letcombe in front.

Hooky began to pass the ball well on a tricky surface and the impressive Danny Poole and Jason Tillcock in midfield began to take control of the middle ground.

Hooky created several chances, but there first good opportunity fell to Jason Tillcock after good work on the right, Jamie Wyatt produced a good near post cross only for Tillcock to head narrowly wide.

Hooky continued to make openings but were not able to convert them and went into the break 1-0 down.

Half Time 1-0

The second Half belonged to the visitors and were rewarded on 65 minutes after substitute Reve Basanti broke clear of the Letcombe defence, squared the ball across the face of the Letcombe goal for Jason Tillcock to ram home the equaliser from close range at the far post.

Harrison Foster then had a twenty yard shot headed off the line with the keeper beaten, and Reve Basanti just failed to get a touch to a Wyatt cross shot shortly afterwards.

However, for all their dominance, with only six minutes remaining, Horsewell ran onto a through ball and with Murrell racing from his goal coolly lobbed the on rushing keeper for his second strike and secure Letcombe’s place in the next round.
