HOOK NORTON F.C. 2 – WINTERBOURNE UNITED F.C. 1

Hooky continued their recent good form with a hard fought win over Winterbourne United at The Bourne.
Hooky started the better of the two sides and but for a good save from keeper Chris Simsek low down to his left from Jason Tillcock the hosts could have been in front early on.

The opening goal of the game on 24 minutes courtesy of Joe Davies who hit a stunning shot from 25 yards out which flew into the top right hand corner of Simsek's net, on the balance of play a goal Hooky thoroughly deserved.

Winterbourne controlled the majority of possession from then on and had a good penalty shout turned down on 32 minutes after a clumsy tackle in the box by man of the match Neal Hobday on Jack Pitcher.
A good save from Joe Murrell kept the hosts in front until the 45
th minute, a corner was swung in and the ball struck Jonny Da Silva on the forearm and a penalty was awarded. Murrell got a hand to the resultant penalty from James Maidstone but managed only to push the ball into his bottom left corner.

The visitors also had another very good penalty claim turned down in first half injury time, Ben Dowdell appeared to be tripped in the area but the visiting player was booked for simulation.

Half Time 1:1

Winterbourne came out in the second half and dominated early on, Hooky soaking up a lot of pressure, Joe Murrell making saves on a couple of occasions to keep the scores level.
The move of the game saw the hard working Danny Poole and Chris Tillcock exchange passes with Tillcock latching onto a perfectly weighted pass from Poole to coolly lift the ball over the on rushing keeper into the empty net.

Sadly Poole was unlucky to be sent off with 15 minutes to go leaving “The Brewery Boys” to grind out a much deserved three points with ten men against very good opposition.
