Hook Norton followed up their opening day point at Cricklade Town, with a 2:1 win at newly promoted Brimscombe & Thrupp in the picturesque setting of the Stroud Valley.

Hooky were indebted to keeper Matty Dixon for three fine saves to keep the score at 0:0 before Reyner da Silva capitalised on a slight hesitation from the home keeper to calmly lob the ball over the advancing keeper and nod the ball into the empty net on 10 minutes.

Hooky doubled their lead on 33 minutes after Danny Poole chased down a Jamie Wyatt through ball causing confusion in the home sides back line, allowing him to calmly run the ball into the open goal.

The second half began evenly with few opportunities at either end.

A generous free kick award on 75 minutes allowed John Dalton to curl a free kick into the bottom corner of the Dixon’s net to halve the deficit.

Hooky went onto create numerous very good chances to close the game out but were unable to convert any of them, which made for an edgy last few minutes.

Hooky finally seeing out the game for a good win on the road.
